A Day Centered on Care, Visibility, and Community Health
Every year on April 18, communities across the country recognize National Transgender HIV Testing Day — a day dedicated to raising awareness, expanding access to testing, and supporting the health and well‑being of transgender and nonbinary people. It’s a moment to highlight both the challenges and the strength within the trans community, and to make sure everyone has the information and care they deserve.
Here on The Pride Porch, we believe in creating a space where every queer adult feels seen, supported, and welcomed. That includes talking openly about health, safety, and the resources that help our community thrive.
Why This Day Matters
Transgender people, especially transgender women, often face barriers to healthcare — from discrimination to lack of affirming providers. National Transgender HIV Testing Day is about breaking down those barriers by encouraging accessible, judgment‑free testing and sharing accurate information about HIV prevention and care.
Testing is not just a medical step — it’s an act of self‑care, empowerment, and community protection.

A Porch Built on Care
The Pride Porch is all about belonging — and belonging includes caring for ourselves and each other. National Transgender HIV Testing Day is a reminder that health is community work, and that everyone deserves access to safe, respectful, affirming care.
So today, we honor our transgender community members with love, visibility, and support. And as always — pull up a chair, sip something refreshing, and know you’re welcome here.
